How to Cut Boys Hair with Scissors
For the Clipper Paranoid/Phobic Boy:) What You'll Need:
Step 2: Use your fingers as a guide for cutting. Place the hair between your fingers with your hand pressed against the scalp.(This would be like a 5/8"- 3/4" with a clipper.) Always cut the hair in the back with fingers up and down (vertical). If you cut with your fingers horizontal you will get ugly choppy lines. Move along the back and sides of hair in this manner. I like to cut this length to about an inch above the ear all the way around.
- Sharp scissors
- Drape or towel (for person getting their hair cut)
- Spray bottle
- Apron with pockets (optional for hair cutter to avoid getting hair all over you and to hold spray bottle and scissors)
- plastic bag (to place hair in)

Step 3:Slightly raise your hand at a slight angle and cut, using fingers as a guide as shown in the photo below. Step 4: With each step towards the forehead, raise your fingers a little more at an angle. Follow the natural movement of the hair. If the hair is laying down the sides-then cut with hands pressed at the side of the head. If hair falls forward then cut with hands pressed towards the forehead (as pictured).Go through hair several times in this manner to be sure to get any loose strands.Step 5: Around the ears can be tricky. To trim this part up, make sure to move the ear out of the way and follow the natural curve of the hair around the ear. Be careful not to cut to high (that is where the expression "It looks like your ears have been lowered" comes from)For the side burns I like to cut them in line with the middle of the ear. Cut it horizontally. For the neck, I follow the natural line of the hair and clean it up so both sides of the neck match up (cutting horizontally). If your child has some long fuzzy hair down the neck then cut with the scissors just hovering parallel to the neck, making sure not to get too close to nick the skin.
