Recycled Treasure Keeper

So many crafty things are made specifically for girls. I only have 2 girls and soon my house will be over run with 4 boys (Yep! The new bun in the oven is a boy). Here is a fun masculine and a feminine craft (I couldn't resist) you can do with your family. (My 11 year old son is the hand model.)
Use this treasure keeper for trinkets, as a bank, and even a gift bag!
The possibilities are endless!!!
Here's What You'll Need:
Mod Podge
Paint Brush
Comics or Glitter and Jeweled Flower
Varnish
Hot Glue+Gun
Tin/ Powdered Juice can with or without lid
Step 1:If desired cut out comic slightly smaller than lid. (I used the lid as a guide and cut a little more off so that it would fit inside the center circle) Mod Podge lid with a thick layer and smooth on comic. Cover with Mod Podge and smooth out any air bubbles with brush or fingers. Set aside and apply a second coat once glue has dried and is clear.
Step 2: Apply a thick layer of Mod Podge to can.
Add on cut strips of comics and smooth on can. Coat with Mod Podge While smoothing out air bubbles. You can overlap comic strips, just make sure that Mod Podge is in between and on top of each layer. Set aside to dry and apply second coat to clear dried can.
Step 1: For a girly-girl approach, coat can with a thick layer of Mod Podge and sprinkle on a thick layer of glitter. Set aside and let dry. When completely dry spray 2 layers of varnish over can(drying in between). this will make the glitter stay in place. When dry add jeweled flower and bow with a hot glue gun.
Done!
Have Fun, Be Creative and Look Fantastic!!!
It's Your Time to shine :)

  1. I've been looking for a fun, inexpensive craft for the kids for our 4-day family reunion. I think that this will be perfect! I will let you know how it works out... meanwhile, I will be collecting containers, comic pages, etc. Thanks!
