How to Hand Ruffle or Gather Fabric

How to Hand Ruffle or Gather Fabric To make ruffles and gathering for pillows, skirts and dresses here are a few helpful tips and instructions.
What You'll Need:
Sewing machine
(this can be done by hand with a running stitch but is time consuming)
Thread
Fabric that needs gathering or ruffling
Step 1: Sew a straight stitch near the edge of fabric along the length of fabric that needs gathering or ruffling.Sew another row below like pictured below. Step 2: Wrap the bottom thread around your fingers (like pictured) and gently pull bottom thread by holding the fabric with the other hand.Step 3: When you have gathered half of the length of your stitched rows then repeat on the other side.
***This makes sure you will not pull your thread out and when you unruffle to desired length you will not pull out the thread as well.***Your ruffle is complete. Now all you have to do is loosen the gathering to your desired length to fit your pattern.

Good luck on you project and as always...
