Homemade Bath Salts

All the ingredients can be picked up at your local Walmart!
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 Cup Epsom Salts and/or Sea Salt (I prefer salt from the Dead Sea)
  • 1/2 tsp Almond Extract or Vanilla Extract (Almond Extract is the strongest)
  • 1 sandwich size Zip Lock bag
  • Container to store bath salts
  • 1/2 tsp Glycerine (optional but I like how it helps blend and bonds the extract with salt)

Instructions:

*Step 1: Pour salt, extract, and glycerine in Zip Lock bag and shake til salt is evenly coated.

*Step 2: Pour into container of choice. I made a paper funnel to make less of a mess while putting it into my container.

***Variations***

  • Add a bow with a vanilla bean tied to it for a natural look.
  • Use essential oils (I tried this and I was happier with the extracts. Extracts are way cheaper, are easier to find and have a stronger aroma)
  • Add brown sugar and a little more glycerine for a body scrub

  1. Very cool! The organic bath salts are way to expensive for my liking and adding my own fragrance makes this little project all the more appealing!

  3. I did this many times before & even with this same little glass container.
This is such a great idea for everyone. We love to use them & make them as adults & child friendly for little ones to make & give as gifts.... Perfect gift. & so many ideas... I need to try new oils/extracts.
    Thanks for sharing! ; )

  4. I think I may have to try this recipe! I do have a jar of plain dead sea salts and a bottle of imitation vanilla that I'm not sure what to do with because I like using pure vanilla or homemade vanilla for baking. I saw the imitation vanilla in your photo and I know I will give the recipe a try!
